It is Cold

Howdy all, (Ray will be adding pictures in the next day so stay tuned)

Well I have not kept up with my writings at all on this trip. So let me do a bit of catchup work.

Dec 12:
Crew arrived in Bozeman. Shaq, Mook & Reese were glad to be out of the car and roaming the yard at Greg & Marnie's place. Ray had made a pit stop at the local grocery store for a box of wine and proceeded to settle himself in for the evening.

Dec 13:
During a blinding blizzard and wicked cold weather (-13 when we left) the intrepid travelers made the journey from Bozeman to Polaris.

Since there are newbies to this blog. I'll do some background work. Bozeman (or Bozo)as it is often called is my Montana Families home. It is home base for just about all the Johnson clan (exception being Sally the Sallymander being in Seattle and Terry being in Florida this winter). We have a "vacation" cabin in a little town of Polaris which is about 140 miles from Bozo.

Polaris is a little 2 horse town with the Grasshopper Inn & Bar (best place for a drink or a meal when they are serving), Elkhorn Hot Springs, and Maverick Mountain Ski Area (best little ski area around if you ask me. 1 chair lift and I kid you not 27 runs off of it.)

So on with our story. We were driving to Polaris in the storm. Took about twice as long to get there, but was worth every minute of it. Showed up and the Cabin was cold so we got fires going and the heater cranked up. And settled in for a day of relaxation and such.

Dec 14:
I took the kids out for a walk around the area. This is Reese's first trip up north (probably her last as she is part of HotLab Rescue and we are fostering her)she was not sure about the cold. So off we went on our hike. Shaq and Mook are going from tree to tree lifting a leg here sniffing there. And all that was on Reese's face was "you want me to squat in this stuff"

I wanted to go skiing at Maverick Mountain, but it had only warmed up to -9 so I decided to go another day. Like when it warms up to 0 or such. But damn it would have been a great day for skiing if it had not been so cold. Fresh powder, few people (OK you could have a lot of people on Maverick and never know it)

One of the things that I love about the cabin is that it is close enough to a major town (Dillon, 25 miles away) that if you need anything you can get it. And it has great amenities right near by like the Grasshopper Bar. The Grasshopper is where everyone who is anyone in the valley comes.

Dec 15 & 16:
Much of the same. Wake up start up the fire, take the kids for a walk (you walk until you see Reese do something) then have a nice breakfast. Make hot apple cider to take the chill off and settle in to read a book (an honest to god book, with words as well as pictures)

Dec 17:
Woke up. Took the kids for a walk. Loaded the Escape up for the trip back to Bozo to pick up Joe at the Airport at a bit before noon. Along the way we stopped at the Wheat Montana factory store for a wonderful bran muffin (got to keep things moving you know in more ways then one). Then a wonderful hour layover at Pamela & Jay's place. They have a wonderful spry Lab named Roxy who took to playing with Mook and Reese right away. They would go out in the yard and run around then come in to warm up and then back out playing. Shaq stayed inside most of the time by the fire. Smart one, that Shaq.

Picked up Joe at the Airport. We went up to the house, relaxed and then went into town for $2 Tacos at 18 Feet to the Border (We showed up while Happy hour Tacos was going on so the $2 tacos were actually $1.50) Then it was back to the house to rest, have a wonderful dinner with Greg, Marnie & Tate. And then to consume mass quantities of Joe's famous Egg Nog. YUMMMMM

And if that were not enough we watched a great half hour of the Knife Shopping network on TV. You have to be in the moment to appreciate it. But it is a shopping show that goes on for hours where they show you all types of knifes to buy at "Stupid Cheap" prices (those are the word from the show). And in every selection was the "Free Knife" so it was blah, blah, blah folding knife and you get the free straight knife.

Of so that catches everyone up to Dec 18 which is just starting.
